summery of Megacon
Day 1:
i get there early and find the line for preregistered tickets. i then have to sit around until 10:30 when they let everyone in and then 11 when they let people into the dealers room. I'm near the front of both these lines. at 1:30 i head over to the Crime noir panel in room 222A. I will spend a good amount of time in that room over the course of the weekend. I'm one of the people who asked questions and at the end i got 3 signed comics! after that i head back to the dealers room and look around some more. after getting some food i head over to the comic writers on the art of writing for comics panel again in room 222A. where i get my New Frontier dvd signed by Darwin Cooke!!!!!! after that i head over to the Fallout Larp.

End Day one.

Day 2:
i get up early and sneak into room 222a for the Green lantern panel.(room 222a) (outside the line for the dealers room is so huge it's sucking the air out of the hall) the panel is amazing and everyone has a wonderful time. after that i get some food and walk around until the Spotlight on DC panel. ( lots of people will be doing things they can't talk about, but it sounds amazing.) after that i stick around until the Art if the cover (222a) panel which was informitive but not as interesting as the other panels.

end day 2

Day 3:
I get to the con in time for the future of comics and new media panel ( guess which room) which i thought was fascinating. I then hang out in the dealers room and get a few more autographs and some food. around 1:15 a surprise announcement cancels the short film festival (which i wasn't going to go to) and replaces it with a Batman Beyond Live action trailer. i race over there as fast as i can. ( not in room 222a for once)the guy who did the joker was amazing. at 2:50 i could be found once more in room 222a for my last panel of the con the do's and don't of comics.

Skeets has become a spaceship. Just shows how size can change things. I think I like it as a space ship. Anyway, after making both Skeets and the science building I wanted to put them together for my final and somehow they ended up on Mars. then one dome seemed boring so i added a few more and now i have a base on Mars. I might go back at some point and give the buildings more detailed texture-maps, but for now I like how it came out.

OK so the first is one of my stock pictures, just an old wood surface but it has some cool knots and is a bit worn down so it's good for layering. the second is something i found when looking for models that outfit looks heavy and uncomfortable but it has some nice details. the third is my favorite it may be animation but it still shows how lighting can change the nature of something.

REFLECTIVE ESSAY
Pick 3 landscape/cityscape images and analyze how they create the illusion of scale and depth.

I'm bored with those other pictures so I'm using some new ones. the first is quite different from the other two. since it's a street view we see a lot more detail in the building, in this case we see how run down it is. we are given the scale by the figure and his dog in the lower left.
the pictures make use of a similar color palette, (except for the last which is strictly black and white. ) which features browns and golds as the lighter colors with shades of blue for shadows and heavy doses of black. the first uses a two point perspective while the others use size to represent perspective. the second image dose the best in showing foreground, mid-ground, and background. the foreground is in deep shadow and partially uses repoussoir along the right side.

End of an age/Next generation:
it starts subtly with Dylan and Miss M talking about recruiting a few new members. They talk about whether the YHA should open it's doors and take in a lot of new members or if they should keep the number of members low. Then Dylan announces she's going off to college and Ben says he's been thinking about that as well. Gavin is a reserve member at this time and even though he's learned how to control his power he still stays with the underground. When the others announce they're leaving he says he's going to formerly leave the YHA. Erin is in high school now along with Hannah. Fay announces that she is also going to go to college but she is staying in the area. She stays a member of the YHA as a trainer and helps get the new members get used to the system. She is there for them, someone they can ask questions or go to if they need advice.
Erin and Hannah are already part of the team Ian is the next to join. Dylan picks him to take over her network so he joins the team before anyone leaves. He is a techno-mancer. Jay (super strength) and Kevin (super speed) are recruited at about the same time. Jay buts into a scene where Hannah is trying to stop someone and tries to save her they get into an argument until she Says she's part of the YHA. He then does a 180 and tries to convince her to put in a good word for him. She says not a chance but it turns out Ian caught the whole thing on tape and after a thorough background check Miss M. decides to let him join. At the same time Miss M. is contacted by someone who tells her about Kevin and how he might have powers she does some digging and discovers he has super-speed but it takes a while to convince him and more importantly his parents he should join the team.

Strike back finally:
Strike has spent the recovery time gathering information. After the truce is over he attacks the people he's been going after but by chance the YHA get involved and the whole thing blows up ending in the death of strike.

there is a period after the monster during which the city is recovering and it shows all the people who died and introduces a few new characters.

Monster:
this is similar to the doomsday arc in that it's just one monster but they have to through wave after wave at it in order to finally stop it. First it's just the YHA, then several other heroes and the police, then the bad guys, and finally the underground. It takes everyone to take the thing down and in the end it gets back up. Then Criss (who has been helping evacuate civilians and get the injured out of the area. Sees how everyone is dieing. She starts thinking about how she's losing the only family she ever cared about and she cracks.
She ends up pulling the monster into a different dimension and then passes out.
No one can believe that she was that powerful and before anyone can react Adam goes over and picks her up. He makes a short speech about a truce then leaves. Ben goes after him and they talk for a bit but Ben can't convince him to come back. Adam says he will pull his people back for a while so the city can recover and then he leaves and Ben doesn't follow.

Underworld:
Gavin's powers go haywire and he runs away from the YHA ending up with the underground. At this point Stardust comes back and reveals that she's still alive. He keeps his badge and so hears what the YHA is doing and sometimes helps them but it tends to be from the shadows. They try to get him to come back but he never lets them get close or convince him.

Pureblood:
this arc introduces the cult of people who were immune to the Red Death (or rather their descendents) they start kidnaping people, children especially and Dylan picks up on it and tries to stop it.
This is a rather short Arc but its important because it leads into the underworld arc in that Gavin starts having trouble with his powers.

Strike back:
Strike back starts when Adam is discovered and leaves the YHA. It gets into full swing when Criss joins him. It continues until after Erin gets hurt and snaps them all out of it. Somewhere in here Hannah joins the YHA as a full member.
The strike back arc ends when strike “dies” and Criss turns over all his information to Dylan.

Power crazy:
The time divided arc leads into the power crazy arc. The power crazy arc deals with the drugs that give people powers and the results of all that.

Hannah ( Ben's sister ) first shows up as a major character in this arc, is saved by Erin and tries to join the YHA. She is denied on the basis of her age (her parents say this not Miss M.) but she does start hanging out with them and training with them.

At this time the strike twice arc is in full swing and the YHA is getting closer to him while he is in turn getting more reckless.

Time divided:
this arc starts with the discovery of the catalyst. Someone tries to use her powers. She tries to escape and the YHA gets involved. During the escape and chase several members of theYHA get thrown into the past. This is the first introduction of Stardust. Sunspot also makes an appearance but Stardust is the focus.
History:
Ben, Criss, Erin, and the catalyst (they call her cat full name Kathrine) are the ones sent to the past. Ben tries to be the leader but it's clear that he doesn't want to be and is not confident. At this time Erin steps up and we see the first hints of him as a leader. Criss is knocked out by the effort of opening the portal so when they first arrive she's out of action. Cat breaks down and is mostly useless but then she pulls herself together and manages to be helpful even though she doesn't know how to use her powers very well.
Present:
Adam, Dylan, Fay, and Gavin are back in the present. they try to figure out what happened to the others while dealing with a sudden uprising in crime rates.

New members:
New members starts with the introduction of Fay. The team members are now used to each other and adding another potential member throughs the balance off. Adam says she should join (since he likes her) this makes Criss sad but she doesn't disagree. Dylan starts doing background checks and Ben tries to deal with the overflow. This makes Fay back off a bit and it isn't until Erin pushes himself into the group that they realize adding new members is a good thing and stop overreacting. Then Gavin is invited to join and before anyone can get used to the new demographic the Time divided arc sets everything on its head.

Strike Twice:
active underworld does not end with the capture of any of the crime lords instead it leads into the Strike Twice storyline. Strike Twice overlies a few other stories. It starts as the YHA try to corner the bosses and find that they can't because the people who are truly responsible are working within the law. Dylan starts trying to pin down evidence, Strike shows up and starts threatening. Then the new members arc happens and strike is still around but he doesn't do as much. Until the Strike Back arc reveals who he is.

Active underworld:
since there are now active Heroes in this city (rather then just passive ones) and now the police are working with them. The underworld is shifting, everything is more risky now and so the bosses start to take notice.
This starts when several shipments and dealers are taken out. The bosses put out the word that anyone who sands a message to the YHA will be rewarded. They're just kids and at first they didn't merit much attention, but now they've proven to be a pain and need to be taken care of. Adam gets a lot of undercover work during this time. The Capes and masks are refined and the badges are invented. Adam and Dylan clash a bit because he's always thinking action and She's always thinking about the process and evidence and such. Ben begins to act as the negotiator/mediator. At first Criss doesn't talk to her much but then she and Dylan end up working a case together. Dylan asks Criss not to tell the others and in the future they continue to work as a team. Without the knowledge of the rest of the team.
During this time the basics of the relationships within the team are defined.
Adam is the hotheaded action oriented leader who takes the rest of the team for granted.
Ben runs around trying to make sure everyone's happy. He's also the only one who is concerned with his family, and there's a subplot during which he tries to hide it from his
Criss at this point is the shy one she tends to hesitate a lot since none of the others need to be taken care of. She has a crush on Adam at this point but he never seems to notice.
Dylan is a bit of a know it all. And within her sphere of influence she does know a lot. Adam manages to get her out of her comfort zone a few times and Ben shows her a less cynical POV.

Overall plots

Arsonist:
the first overall plot is that of the arsonist. Adam and Ben are the only members of the YHA when he starts becoming well known. During Ben's first solo he fights a fire started by the arsonist. Then Criss joins them and she is the first to see him. That's when she learns how she can be helpful to the group. During this time the police (and Dylan) are trying to figure out how to deal with the YHA. Who are they? They are young and don't have licenses but are being helpful and the public knows about them and most people like them. Dylan is trying to uncover who they are and what their purpose is and is shown as someone in opposition to the YHA. After the YHA capture the arsonist and turn him over to the police they limp back to the McNamara building. Dylan follows them. Miss M. has been monitoring the police and realizes what she's been up to. Dylan sneaks into the building only to discover that She is expected. Miss M. speaks to her and they blackmail each other until Dylan agrees to join the YHA. There is a short arc (three volumes?) showing the others response to her joining the team and the first fight they are all involved in. At the end Dylan speaks to the police and works out a deal with them.

i haven't posted anything recently, that's because work has kept me very busy.
work sucks.
not in just the normal ways either. in the past week there have been three thefts at my store (one of which we did manage to stop.) i was there for all three of them. i've had to deal with this shit three times in the last week and i haven't had a day off yet. it happened lat friday, saturday and then last night.
i was supposed to have today , tomorrow and friday off.
but because one of my coworkers is, frankly, an idiot. I've been called in today. and to top it all off i have to fill in for her on friday as well.
i just lost two days off because of her being stupid. I needed those days off.
I'm i wreck right now.
and added to that if she continues to fail that stupid test, continues to not have a food handlers card, i might have to miss kumoricon because we wont have enough people to cover.

the dynamic

recently i've been thinking about the dynamic of the YHA.
in the past i pictured it as a kind of home/school/ life for them but that doesn't make any sense from Miss M's POV. she created it. it was her idea and even if she didn't have much of a childhood she would still want them to have one. in her mind it's more of an exclusive club. Adam is the one who starts going out on patrols (and that is after Miss M says he shouldn't) because he's bored and thinks he's ready.
when Ben turns up Miss M thinks things will go back to the 'club' idea.

this is where things change.

Ben turns her down. he says thanks but he doesn't think he has the personality to be a hero. he goes home she covers up the fact that he was the one on the carpet and leaves the offer open. Adam however in stuck on the idea and goes to Ben's home to see why he really said no. that's when he finds out Ben is adopted. Ben recognizes him and they go for a walk and end up talking about stuff. it turns out that Ben has been experimenting a little. "i didn't do it on purpose, i was just thinking and then it kind of happened." they become friends and Ben is grateful that Adam is there because he has no one else to talk to about his powers. they start getting together whenever Ben is in the city and eventually Ben does join the team. however since he can fly he still lives at home and it becomes something like an after school job or club. he has a room there if he needs to spend the night but doesn't use it too often.
then Criss comes along and she ends up living there. Dylan is about half and half depending on her dads schedule. after Dylan joins Ben ends up spending more time with the YHA because he has more responsibility and because everyone else is always there.

a while back i made a big fuss about DC not keeping up with Marvel
i have been proven wrong.
ever since then i have been finding tons of animated movies that have come out since 2000 add to that the green lantern movie, a third batman movie and a superman reboot (since lets face it no one liked the old superman movies) on the way plus a possible flash movie to be confirmed. then there's a new animated series Young Justice. the new Blue beetle series and a green lantern series (rumored) to start after the movie comes out.

thank you DC for restoring my faith in you.

origins

so recently i've been trying to work out how everyone came to be a member of the YHA and think of them as comics. originally i was going to start with Gavin's origin and go from there but now that Adam has proved to be such an interesting character he's getting his own origin (which is also the start of the YHA) and after that i figured I'd do one for each of them.
I've also worked out that there is at least one story between each origin, and Adam and Ben have a few stories before the others come in.

also i'm going to do them comic style each story between 15 and 35 pages, as if in a comic book.

Batman comics

i went out today and bought a bunch of comics.
top of my list was The Return of Bruce Wayne #4 and #2 both of which i was able to snag so good times. i didn't manage to get batman beyond #2 but i'll find it...
the return of Bruce Wayne is good, but i wish it was a bit longer or something. the whole thing seems to be talking about the world ending if he makes it back to the present. WE ALL WANT HIM TO GET BACK TO THE PRESENT. or at least i do. not to mention that nothing can stop him. he is batman after all. he'll either remember or superman will catch up to him and tell him the whole story but if they try to stop him physically he'll either go into another time slip or just be bad ass enough to defeat them.
there has to be a twist.
i will be very disappointed if there isn't a twist.

the reasons

so i guess i haven't been posting things for the past few weeks here are the reasons.
1: I'm working full time
2: i was focusing on finishing my piece for the mayors art show
3: i was "doing research" on blue beetle comics
4: i was researching the DC time-line (confusing as anything can be)
5: i was trying to figure out what else i can do with the YHA

this last one is the important one. see, i've gotten to the point where i either need to start figuring out plot lines for individual stories or start introducing new characters. possibly both if those characters are villains.
see, I've gotten to the point where the first generation is growing up. Adam "dies" Criss hangs up her cape and not long later Dylan decides to go to college or the police academy or whatever. at the same time Ben says that he's leaving and hands over leadership to Erin. they think that's going to be it (since that would leave the teem with 4 members (by this point Ben's sister has joined the group as Hannah)) but then Gavin says he's leaving as well. everyone is a bit surprised but he is the same age as the others so it makes a kind of sense. after that everyone thinks Fey is going to leave as well but she decides to stick around and train the new recruits.

so Erin becomes the leader of the Second generation. (yes it was the third a while back but i've changed my mind.)

with all my characters splitting up it becomes a different story, or set of stories. i was trying to figure out what to do, and i still am.

since i've been working on the original pictures of my heroes and thinking more about them i've been wondering what titles i should give them.
so far here's what i have:
Adam: Power (?) WIP
Ben: courage
Criss: ???
Dylen: knowledge
Erin: Hope,(or) Dream
Fay: freedom (?)
Gavin: loyalty

the only one i really like is Ben's Courage it fits the pose and the character. Erins works as well but the others don't really work for both the character and the pose. that or they wouldn't make sense if you took the picture on it's own without the story behind the characters.
each of the titles has to be a part of the Heroes code, but also the right word for the character.

I've been spending a lot of time (when i have it) on the colored picture of Ben.
I hate it now.
it's not finished but the other day a looked at it and was like 'how come i never noticed his legs were different lengths!?!' and since then i haven't been able to work on it.
the problem is that for a long time that was the piece i was going to submit to the Mayors art show. now that i hate it i just can't. but i do want to submit something. so i've started on Erins picture. i had to fix a few things like his hand and i've taken out the background until i can get a better silhouette. but all in all i like that one a lot better, at least at the moment.
of course that may just be because i've only started on it.
and i have to remember that the deadline for submitting is less then two weeks away July 31st.
If i finish Erin in time he's the one to be submitted if not then Ben gets a second chance.

Personality: he is dependable and not a lot can shake him. It sometimes takes him a while to make up his mind but when he does he doesn't go back on his word. He is someone the others can lean on without seeming to. Most of the time he doesn't put himself forword so he never ends up as a leader of the group but if there's are groups everyone wants them him on their team.
Background:

when i wrote this i had no idea of his history and i still know very little about him.

the story starts when Gavan joins the YHA as member number 7. he helps Fey out of a jam when Roulette holds up a bank and she offers him a place in the group. after a few days he decides to check it out and ends up joining them.

i do know how he reacts when Adam goes rouge.

when Adam leaves Gaven doesn't know what to think.he never knew Adam well since he created Strike soon after he joined and after that Adam became more of a loner. of all the members he is closest to Erin mostly because he was the only one not really effected after Criss followed Adam. Gavan helped Erin fill in the extra shifts when the others were having their breakdowns. in a way he became Erin's second in command. while the YHA was fighting Strike he was the one to fight the hardest.

at some point he his powers start to evolve and he looses control of them he runs away from the YHA since he looks like a monster. Stardust finds him and takes him in as one of her outcasts.he stays with them for a while but still works on his powers and eventually gets control of them. after he gets control he returns to the YHA promising to never tell anyone of the outcasts or that stardust is still alive.
as an adult he is known as Adamant since the crystals he turns into are green tinged.

Fay is by far the least powerful member of the team. she would not have ended up as a hero if she hadn't been recruited. instead she probably would never have learned to use her powers. at first she was looked down on by the rest of the group because she was the first new member in over six months ans she didn't look like someone who could help them. that was one of the reasons she decided to stay in school and only be a partial member until the end of the school year. (Erin was recruited during that time which is why he has the letter E rather then her.) during her time as a reserve member she helped design the new training room and became friends with Dylan when she helped her solve a case involving some rich people funding illegal operations. by the time she joined as a full member the group welcomed her with open arms. it didn't hurt that Adam had a crush on her.

most of the team don't know why Miss M. recruited her but at this point it's moot since she's now definitely one of the team.

Fay is the one who guards her secret identity the most. for the others it's more because they don't want to be pestered or because they feel ashamed of who they once were. She is afraid that if her parents ever found out they would kick her out of the family rather then have a scandal. she does plan to tell then but only after she is a full fledged Hero and has proven herself.

she is the only member who was born into wealth and so sometimes sees things differently from the others.

she does like Adam. when she first joins the team she flirts with him and he's too nervous to ask her out. when he finally gets up the guts to ask her out she says why not as if its not a big deal. they go out for a while and both of them are very passionate about it. she is the first to notice things are off after he creates Strike but she ignores it. when he is revealed to be Strike she is injured deeply and ends up retreating into her work with the training room.when Criss leaves she it gets even worse. she basically turns off her emotions hiding behind her "perfect girl" mask. she helps like before but seems to do do everything slightly mechanically and with extreme precision.

as an adult she is known as arrow. by then her powers have evolved. her arrows have become a lot more powerful, and with her acrobatics she is a force to be reckoned with. she never does get around to telling her parents.

Personality: happy and adventurous. Erin loves being a part of the YHA and sees each day as a new adventure. The problem with this is that he can very easily get in over his head. Criss has had to pull him out of more then one fire.
Background: Erin lived with a woman he calls Aunt May before he joined the YHA. She is his Godmother and the only family he knows. His parents were killed when he was 4.

I still don't know a lot about Erin's past, and his parents are still a bit of a mystery though i know they are important. i believe he comes from a family with a lot of power, and he has definitely inherited it. he used to live in an apartment complex with Aunt May and because of his personality he knew over half the people in the building, so even though he has never known any of his family he was never alone and doesn't regret it. in a way he had an enormous family.

Erin has had his powers for as long as he can remember and though no one has told him so he guesses that he got them in the car crash that killed his parents. his godmother brought him up on stories of heroes and he always wanted to be one of them so it was bound to happen at some point, though the fact that it happened so soon worries Aunt May. because of all the stories and because he's still a little kid he is naive. he would have probably gotten himself killed if he hadn't joined the YHA which is one of the only reasons She let him join. She knows Exactly what the YHA is and insists that he come home for dinner at least once a week so she knows he's still alive. if she had her way he would still live with her rather then at the base but in the end she let him have his way about that so long as he still does his homework.

Erin is the little kid of the group for a long time. he is often seen chasing after the others and getting into trouble that they have to get him out of. he is often compared to a puppy when it comes to his personality. in the end though he is a valued member of the team and this becomes apparent when Adam and Criss leave. when it happens Erin is the one who fills in the extra shifts and takes the lead when Ben falls apart. during this time he and Gavin become close since Gavin is the only one who can still think strait. it also becomes clear at this point exactly how young he is. he tries his hardest but makes a lot of mistakes and doesn't organize things well and most of the others are too messed up to help. finally it all catches up with him and he gets hurt. a broken arm and a few cracked ribs. when the others come to visit him everything comes out and he forces them (with the help of Gavin) to sit down and talk things out and figure out what to do next.

unlike some of the others he never gives up on Adam and Criss mainly because he knows Criss the best (he sees her as an older sister) and he trusts her judgment. he is not the first to put together the fact that Strike is only hitting certain targets, but he is the first to believe he's doing it for good. when strike finally reveals everything and is "killed" in the big climax he is the first to offer Criss her place back in the group. she declines and becomes a civilian for a while. though as an adult she does join/rejoin the group of heroes who have graduated from the YHA.

As an adult Erin is one of the primary leaders of the new team if Ben was Superman he would be a combo of Flash and possibly GL. he is also a lot like Kile Rayner. fun loving and able to see the bright side but quite capable of leading a team in a crisis.

i love the fair. and this year the little cousins are coming as well as Kira and everything is good. the fair is such a good environment for creativity i'll probably get lots of brainstorming done.

the first team

don't know if i've said this yet so i'm saying it now.
the profiles i've put up so far Adam, Ben, Criss, and Dylan are the first team. they were the only members of the YHA for almost six months. near the end of that Fay was brought in as a temporary member but only to train and then no more then once a week. all the paperwork didn't get done until later hence why her letter is F rather then E. anyway the point is that the first team had quite a few adventures before Erin, Fay and finally Gavin joined up. if i get around to it i plan to write/draw out a few of them, most likely as flashbacks. I;ll be putting up some of my ideas as 'Case Files' later.

Background: Her parents have been divorced since she was four. She sees her mother every month or so. Her father is a police detective, a fact which she is very proud of. When the YHA first began she started investigating. She is so far the only person to volunteer for the YHA. When she volunteered she already knew everything about the YHA from infiltrating their bace.

for a long time Dylan was the one i knew the least about, i didn't even know she was a girl. then one morning she started talking and now i know quite a bit about her.

as is says above she sees the world in black and white, everyone has a choice and braking the law is something one does by choice not by accident. that said she does learn. before Gavin joins the group and for a wile after Adam shows her that there are many shades of gray. when he revels himself to be Strike. she is crushed even though she doesn't show it. she turns away from everything that he has shown her and looks at the world even more as black and white. it takes her a long time to realize that he was right after all. she is the one that works out the fact that Strike is only targeting shady corporations.

she is the information guru of the group and there is an entire floor of people who answer to her. any alarm that goes off is seen by her. later in her career she is nicknamed Spider because her web of information spans the whole city. the name sticks even though her real hero name is Shade.

Weakness:she can only open up one portal at a time (two if she concentrates only on them and doesn't move) the moment she stops concentrating they stop working. She can create only two sizes of portal: pocket size or door size. Her portals are always obvious because they glow slightly.
Strength: she and Dylan make a killer team. Other then that she works best on her own, she tends to worry about anyone else she is teemed up with and get distracted.
Personality: She is generally laid back. She looks after the others in a slightly motherly way (paying most of her attention to Erin). She is sensible and straightforward. She has a considerable amount of common sense. She tends to see things not as good or bad but as threatening or not threatening.
Background: Criss was the third member to join the YHA and the first girl. She joined quietly and no one seems to know where she was before then. She claims to have family, just, not in the area. She has never gone to visit them.

that was the first profile i created for her since then a few things have changed, or rather been added. first she doesn't talk about her family but it is in her file. she was raised by a single mother who regretted keeping the baby. Criss's mother was a drunk and she was constantly verbally abusing Criss. Criss knew who her father was but he was never a part of her life. her parents were never married. she accidentally Killed her mother when she discovered her powers as well as severely injuring herself. she takes care of the group the way she does because she's always wanted a real family. her father denied any relation when Criss killed her mother and she became a word of the state. she would have gone into foster care if Miss M. hadn't stepped in.

she has a secret crush on Adam but doesn't step in until Adam leaves the group she tries to get him to come back but he revels that he knows her history and invites her to come along with him since she knows what he means and why he's doing it all. she agrees.

not sure what happens after that I'll work on it.

Personality: Ben is the real leader in the YHA, he is charismatic lighthearted and has a good sense of humor. It takes a lot to get him down.
Background: Ben was recruited into the YHA after he took a ride around the city on the hall carpet. His parents live in the suburbs and he goes home every weekend to visit them.

Ben was the first member of the YHA that i drew. in some ways he's the easiest to talk about and in other ways he's the hardest. of all the members of the group he is the most likely to have ended up a hero without the YHA. even though he's a natural leader he never volunteers to be a leader. the only reason he regularly leads the teem is because he has the most experience apart from Adam and Adam already runs all the night shifts. he sees it as something that is just part of being a senior member. while everyone else considers Ben to be the leader Ben thinks of Adam as the leader and himself as Adam's second in command. it's one of the reasons they get along even when Adam gets himself into trouble, Ben backs him up.

this leads to major self-esteem problems when Adam is reveled to be Strike. Ben can't understand it and ends up confronting him witch is the final straw for Adam who leaves. Ben tries to hold things together but breaks down after Criss goes after him. he resigns as a teem leader and blames himself for the teem falling apart since he's the one who drove Adam away. it really shakes him up and even after everyone votes him back as teem leader it takes him a long time to gain that confidence back.

Ben is one of the few Members of the YHA that not only has a good relationship with his family but has also told them what he is doing with the YHA. he has a little sister who joins the YHA as part of the third generation.

Powers: Lightning (note: he does not posses magnetism or other powers attributed to electricity, his powers are drawn more from wether.)
Weakness: a short temper, water doesn't effect him as much as it does other electricity using heroes, he can still use his powers it just makes it harder to aim. His powers are extremely limited when indoors.
Strength: when he has a partner, he doesn't work well in big groups but he often forgets to watch his back. He works best when he has someone he trusts to watch out for him, or vice versa someone to look out for.
Personality: cocky, he likes to think of himself as a leader but in truth he's not very charismatic. He only really gets serious in battle when using his powers. Conversely he gets snappy if he doesn't get a chance to use his powers for a few days. in general he has a short temper and can't stand to see bad things happen to people who can't do a thing about it.
Background: he comes from a single parent household and he probably would have ended up in a gang if he didn't have powers. As it was his powers nearly killed him the first time he used them. He was rushed to a hospital by a woman who happened to be driving by. Miss M. then took him in as the first member of the YHA (a program which she had been working on for a few months) he still sees his dad and younger sister every once in a while, they think he is at a boarding school.

that is his basic profile and even though i wrote it up a while ago it's still mostly true. there is one change to his history i have made. he either doesn't have a little sister or she lives with her mother in another city. basically part of him being the first member of the YHA was a few conditions one of which was that he get to live in luxuries rather then his dad's old flat. also something to add: he is the strike leader of the team since he tends to blow up half the surroundings he's not very good in situations where there are hostages but is they get a tip that something is going down he's the one stop it. he is a good planer he just stops thinking once the fight starts. he normally takes the night shift.

the name system was also his idea since Miss M. was originally going to call him #01 (he refused to be a number) or Alpha (no) in the end she suggested Adam which he said was at least better then the others. the way he tells is he chose the name Adam. then when Ben turned up Miss M. was all set to call him Beta but Adam made a big fuss and Ben suggested the A, B, C, system they're now using.

Adam likes the YHA in that it gives him power and a chance to train. most of the kids in his neighborhood say they're going to get out of there but few ever do. Adam in an odd way is proud that he was one of the few. on the other hand he keeps going back there. he sees the people who are being beaten down and wants to knock someones head in. needless to say this gets him into trouble. when it was only the primary members it was less of a problem but it slowly builds into an obsession. at one point Dylan gets involved in a case having to do with some of his old friends and he goes out to prove they are innocent. he shows her some of the gray in the world.

When Gavin joins the group he and Fey are "not dating" he likes her but believes she's too good for him since she comes from a rich family and without the YHA he would be nothing. She likes that he's the bad boy and toys around with him at first before falling head over heals for him when he finally decides to go after her heart for real.

He is the Anti-hero of the group.

in the future he creates a persona called Strike who works outside the law where the "hero" can't help. Strike is branded as a terrorist and the YHA starts going after him. when they find out who Strike is it sparks an argument in the group and with Ben in particular. they'll have a big fight and Adam declares that he's leaving. No one is sure if he's serious. then he does leave. everyone tries to act normal saying he'll be back. Criss thinks it's bigger then that and tries to get him to come back to the group. in the end she ends up going after him and also leaving the group. this shakes everyone up badly. Adam gathers a group of people around him like a gang but with different goals. Criss reveals her name to be Eve and stays with him. she is in love with him though it is unclear if her truly loves her back since he is torn up and trying to work through leaving the YHA and taking on the persona of Strike full time. eventually he does come back to the good side and takes on the name and persona of Stormfront. ( this is after a period of silence when the YHA (then in the third generation) believes him dead.) when he resurfaces as Stormfront he hides his identity from the group and it takes a while for them to figure out who he is.

the YHA

i don't know how much i've posted about the YHA so I'm going to recap and just post what i know so far.

the YHA was created by Miss M. (Opel MacNamara) she was the head of the MacNamara corporation but stepped down in favor of her brother. She is supposedly training the future leaders of the company. in truth she is funding the Young Heroes Association. the YHA was about to start recruiting when Adam blew up a building her car was passing. she was the one to make the 911 call and she stayed to see it through. in the end the offered him a place to train and to stay and so on. he took the offer on the condition that he get to live richly and so on. she agreed and they got started. just under a month later ( and with Adam still basically in training ) Ben took a joy ride on the Hall carpet. Miss M. recruited him at once and helped cover up the incident. 2 weeks later Miss M. found Criss who had been hospitalized. she was offered membership and since she was having problems with her family and needed a place to stay among other reasons she accepted the offer.one week later Dylan accused Miss M of child endangerment and they blackmailed each other into submission. Dylan ended up joining the group and quickly became the head of the information department.

these are the senior members. later they become known as the first team.

about five months later Miss M. discovers Fey who decides to join the group on the condition that she can finish the school year first. her membership is put on hold as per her request. about a month later Criss is doing sweep of the city and seen Erin playing in a park. he is all alone and using his powers. she tries to stop him from getting himself killed and after he proves he's alright he starts asking her questions and ends up following her back to the hide out where he was recruited. 2 months later Fey joins the team officially. it was about four weeks later that Gavin helped Fey out at a bank heist and he was given the option to join a few days later he took the chance.

that's the history to the present. i do know a few things that are going to happen later but I'll save those for another post.

the reasons for the YHA some statistics:
the ratio of people without powers to people with powers is about 500:15
of those 15, 7 will die before they master their powers. in the group examples are Adam and Criss, both spent time in the hospital before joining the YHA.
3 of the rest will not use their powers because they're not useful or too weak to be any help. an example from the group is Fey. if she hadn't been trained to she would have ignored her power.
3 of the remaining would use their power for their own gain, basically turn evil to one degree or another.
1 of the remaining two would try to become a hero and help people but would fail and most likely die, Erin would have probably ended up in this category if not for the YHA.
only one out of the 15 would have become a recognized hero or use their powers successfully for good. Ben falls into this category.

the age you get the powers is also important. the 'magic age' is between 14 and 27. most people get their powers in that age range.
if you get your powers younger you see them as a part of you and use them without a thought. often people who get their powers younger then 14 use them for their own gain like a selfish child or use their powers in a public way. most people who are in the spotlight and have powers got them young. Erin falls into this category.
if you get you're powers older then 27 then you are set in your ways. most people are either afraid of their own powers and don't use them or start using them for their own gain. only a rare few turn to heroics and try to use their power to help.

Overview

OK I've meant to post more things here but have been away from the computer every time i get a brainwave. so i've been putting all the info in notebooks and such. anyway i'm going to post the profiles of my seven Heroes and Miss M. here soon
the other thing is that I've got most of their histories hashed out now and i know all their powers and today they let me in on the big overall plot-line so we are good.

several things i still need to work on are the Rogues and the City. I've decided to use an old story idea as the history of this universe. That gives the world a bit more history and heroes of the past to live up to and in one case maybe meet. it also gives me some villains to bring in that i made for the other story. keep in mind this is several hundred years later but the ideas never actually got used so i can just change the motivation and back-story and be good. there was also a cult in the original which i can easily bring back.
the old idea also has given me the name of the city.
Star City: named after one of the Heroes from the original idea. she helped bring the world back from the brink. she might still be around because of the nature of her powers but i haven't decided yet. if she does come back she will be much changed from the original. her hero name was Stardust hence Star city. it is now known as the western capital of the New U. S. A. (there is still an eastern capital but i have yet to hash out the details. )

the look of the city is what i've been working on but there are so many ideas going through my head it's been hard to stay on topic.

once i get started thinking i get a lot of ideas all at once so i'm going to put some of them down here so i don't forget.

since i want to do superheroes research the publishers, as well as the distributors. see if you can interview people in the industry, make connections. possibly split the website in half, half on the heroes half on the comics and distributing and Conventions and so on. don't forget about the conventions. see what smaller publishers have to say verses the big guys.
on another note,
what does it take to make a hero: part of the site on the process, initial sketches, ideas, all that.

Plan things out then decide on how to do it. don't pull punches. this is big make it fantastic. don't settle for anything less.

Senior project

i've been thinking off and on about what i should do for my senior project and though i still don't really know what i want to do i thought i should post some of my ideas.

#1: an idea i came up with a while back was to create an obstical course for the YHA. there would be different obstacles that could be put in different orders. i would have different animations for each hero, and for each obstacle. the trick would be to get them to play one after the other so it looks like one unit, and having the order change depending on what obstacle is up. the thing about that would be the time to do all the animations, and the fact that it would be almost all in flash.

#2: then i got this image into my head. it's the interior of an elevator and there's a panel that asks for authorization, a name and password. i like how that would work for the CS side. that led me to remember a scene from Myst where you're in an elevator and the whole thing with looking for keys and all that. that worked. i think i could make something like that only in the YH tower. that would be more CSish, more programing at least. i could even build some of it in Maya. as well as use flash and photoshop.

right now the YHA is what i'm working on and i think i could use them in the project since they will probably still be interesting to me next winter. more on them later.

on another note i've been writing a lot recently. i created a new character named Any Vimes. she's a reporter and she's been having fun interviewing people and chasing down leads. all good fun. Will has been busy opening a restaurant. It's called The Glen. then there are Iris and James who have entered another contest on my behalf.
then there's the fact that i'll be leaving for San Fransisco tomorrow. just one night but with six of us it will be fun. after that there's moving back to Eugene, figuring out my senior project, getting a job.

why anyone would even think of scheduling anything at 7:30 in the morning let alone a final test is beyond me. of course i didn't get any sleep, so i'm at yet another disadvantage. it's not even a good thing that i still have the rest of the day because i'm going to be exhausted through all of it.
the only good thing to come out of it is the fact that Dylan one of my heroes started talking to me. I've now got a fairly good idea of her character and since i didn't even know if she was a girl or a boy before now that is big. then i decided to come into the lab and draw some rather them go home since i still don't have Photoshop on my home computer after the big melt down. <> i ended up inking Adam's picture. there were some changes that needed to be made to one of his legs but i think i fixed that problem. His picture will probubly end up being very diferent from Ben's.

DC. vs. Marvel

it had to come up some time.
i am so a DC girl. but you know what? DC has disappointed me. i went to their website and you know what i found? a very well planed, well organized, white page. you'd think with so many amazing artists out there they could manage to come up with something interesting for the website. animations, cover shots of the newest comics (ok they might have those) bios for all the heroes. there are quite a few you know and many are not well known.
so then i think well maybe they don't need a fancy website they are very well known maybe they are using other forms of advertising. so what do i do? i look to their biggest competitor Marvel. you know what Marvel has? a site full of color with heroes lining the walls, slide-shows and movie-clips.
and now that i think about it Marvel has pulled way ahead in the movie scene as well.
first there was X-men then Blade II, Spiderman, daredevil, X2, hulk, the punisher, spiderman 2, blade: trinity, elektra, Man-thing, fantastic four, X-men: the last stand, ghost rider, spider-man 3, Fantastic Four: rise of the silver surfer, Iron Man, the incredible hulk, Punisher: War Zone, X-men origins: wolverine and Iron man 2
count them: 21 movies just since 2000.
DC movies: the league of extraordinary Gentlemen, Catwoman, Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, Superman Returns, the Dark Knight, the Spirit, Watchmen, and Jonah Hex to come out later this year.
the number: 9
plus Kick-ass to come out later this year again by Marvel so the number is really 22 to 9.
i mean come on DC you're letting Marvel kick your ass.
on the good side the overarching plot for the Marvel comics got terrible reviews (honestlly who turns Captain America into someone who hates America?!) so DC is still ahead on that front at least, well, sort of. ( no one kills off batman and the only saving grace there was that they are bringing him back (along with the rest of the heroes who got killed off needlessly ) )
anyway, i had a point here. in the website battle DC was crushed.

today i learned that blender is an idiot. It is impossible to change the viewpoint, open new viewpoints or change the settings without loosing things into the ether. there iis no way to get them back and no way to set the settings back to the default.

Drifters

I've been working on my own GN on the side. so far I've been calling it Jumper, but i think i might change it to drifters, the problem with the title is that for the first chapter i want it to seem like the characters are normal and something is just slightly off. So i don't want to give anything away with the title.
the overall plot is that this woman Ivy appears on this planet that is referred to as the garden. she can jump between dementions and when she leaves Drake the other MC follows her to a new world. she teaches him to jump while trying to stay away from the Planeswalker organization.
the first chapter consists of four parts and it's basically just Ivy, Drake and rakes friend Hige running around. Drake and Hige don't know that Ivy is from a different planet and nether does the reader so things seen a bit strange around her.

#1: Aikido, we always work with a partner but i was mainly thinking of Jo work (staff work) when working with a weapon you have to be constantly aware of your distance, and yet you cant think to much or you get tense.
#2: it struck me recently just how much we interact with computers, (myself even more then others because of my Major) we "talk" to them more then other people.
#3: then that gets me thinking of books (who knows why) and how people are reading less and less except that people who are reading are reading because they want to and love the books.

Ok first Blender is absolutely terrible compared to Maya. given the choice i would chose Maya 15 times out of 10, but since the assignment is to use Blender I don't really have a choice. the lab was to make the man with the hat and all that and after losing the first version to the black hole of the school computers i am now using my own computer. the hat man is the most anoying thing i have done in about three years.

recently I've been reading A Drifting Life by Yoshiro Tatsumi it's his memoir and it's full of facts about Japan when he was growing up. He's called the father of Japanese alternative comics, and i can kind of see it where i am in the book right now.

City of reality

today i was going through my comic list and rediscovered the City of Reality http://cityofreality.com/
it's an amazing comic. they do some wonderful things with flash that i really need to figure out how to do, at least i think it's flash they use.

the idea behind the comic is basically summed up with the first page and yet the author manages to keep the reader (me) hooked with interesting characters, a fascinating world and a unique look at the way things could be.

I recommend it to everyone.

Ok i need to rant for a bit so go ahead and ignore me.
it's the comic, in the beginning it was really fun because i was working on a webcomic with my friend and i was chalenging myself and all that jazz. but now it's getting to be a chore. I'm two years in and I'm not getting any help anymore and Kira is turning everything around story wise. She askes for more heads up and she wants me to start getting a buffer but she's not putting in any work. Each of her scripts is maybe half a page, she'll write a handful of them pass them over to me then ignore the comic for the next month or whenever i come asking for more scripts. then she complains about how it's not like she wanted when i post the pages. I put hours into these pages. sure I'm no longer spending 6 hours on a single page but 3 hours a page is nothing to scoff at especially when it's twice a week like clockwork for the past 2 years give or take. the closet was originally a joke it was never a story idea that i wanted to follow for this long. I keep thinking that this is going to end and i'd rather it be sooner then later.
